Amaya Johnson

I chose physics as my major because it’s what I wanted to major in when I graduated high school but I doubted myself. I also chose physics because I got an A in my 11th grade physics class, I rarely got more than a C in STEM classes after 9th grade and math was not my strong suit. , I love quantum physics and learning about black holes.

I’m currently a communications officer for SPS here at UMD. , This is important and impactful because my grandfather really wanted me to go back to school and I did too but I kept putting it off because of finances. I decided to apply on faith and he transitioned before I could tell him and before I found out I got in... for physics at that. This helps me continue on to honor him and also still be a stay at home mom.
