I am most passionate in research regarding metallicity, and galactic and extragalactic research in astronomy.
My story
I’ve always liked space, but what made me decide to major in astronomy was a research project my freshman year. The project involved protoplanetary disks and I learned I really liked conducting astronomy research. I’ve since participated in other research projects covering other parts of astronomy, and each of these opportunities further cemented my interest in the field. I am most passionate in research regarding metallicity, and galactic and extragalactic research in astronomy. After obtaining my B.S. in astronomy/astrophysics, I want to get a Ph.D. in astronomy and pursue a career that mainly consists of conducting astronomy research.
This past summer I had the opportunity to be a part of the Astronomy REU program at the Maria Mitchell Association. My research involved analyzing X-ray flares with the Chandra X-Ray Observatory from the supermassive black hole at the center of the Andromeda galaxy (M31*). Currently, I’m working on a research project involving developing selection methods for low metallicity using data from Gaia and GALEX.
This scholarship is providing financial stability to continue on my track in astronomy. With this scholarship, I am guaranteed support to continue living on campus which helps me take charge of the opportunities in astronomy that require on-campus engagement.
