I know the fact that physics is challenging turns people away, but it pushes me to try harder and overcome said challenges.
My story
I became a physics major because I knew I wanted to go into a genre of engineering in graduate school. I have now decided that I want to go into environmental engineering to aid in solving the climate crisis. Even though I am planning on getting a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, I am still passionate about physics because it is so challenging, which means I’ll never get bored of the subject. I know the fact that physics is challenging turns people away, but it pushes me to try harder and overcome said challenges, and it’s fun to spot how physics shows up in our everyday lives. I would like to become a professional engineer and certified architect, and I hope to be able to mesh my environmental engineering knowledge with architecture.
I recently became a board member for my college’s French Committee, and the director of communications for the Black Student Association. This scholarship is impactful for me because it will allow me to focus on completing my physics degree and my extracurriculars and spend significantly less time focusing on how to get by financially each term.
