Richard A. Braxton II

Ever since I was a child, science has sparked a unique curiosity in me, from the awe of natural disasters like tornadoes to the cosmic wonders of the universe.

In my first semester of college, a calculus class reawakened my love for mathematics and science, and I realized that my true calling is in physics. I understood that life wasn’t just about making money; it was about making a difference.

What captivates me most about astronomy is the vastness of the unknown. There’s a mysticism to the universe—so much we may never fully understand, yet so much left to discover. This sense of infinite possibilities fuels my curiosity and desire for exploration. I’m driven by the idea that we live in a time where we’re too late to explore Earth but too early to explore the stars. Astronomy, however, offers a unique bridge, allowing us to delve into the mysteries of the cosmos and push the boundaries of what we know, much like Galileo and other pioneers who dared to imagine beyond their time.

With a degree in physics, I believe in fully committing to the journey ahead, which is why I am determined to pursue a Ph.D. My goal is to engage in groundbreaking research that expands our understanding of the universe. I plan to travel the world, immersing myself in diverse scientific communities to gain new perspectives and insights.
